Rooney and RVP fires Man United to a win

Second half goals from Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney helped Manchester United to 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday evening.

After a cagey first half, United broke the deadlock through a spot-kick from Van Persie after 15 minutes of the second period and they made sure of all three points ten minutes later when Rooney volleman unitedyed home a cracking effort from 18 yards.

United started the game strongly with Robin van Persie confidently attempting an overhead pick from a Wayne Rooney header, but the Dutchman failed to make contact.

The away side then had the ball in the net on 17 minutes, but Adnan Januzaj’s powerful low finish was ruled out because of a handball from the youngster in the build-up.

David Moyes’s side continued to look the stronger team and it took a good header off the line to stop Rooney’s cross going all the way in, before Nemanja Vidic headed over shortly after.

The second half started much like the first had finished with United dominating possession without causing Palace too many problems.

This changed after an hour when Januzaj released Patrice Evra who surged into the box before being fouled by Chamakh. The referee pointed to the spot and Van Persie duly stepped up and fired home the spot-kick to make it 1-0.

And it was two ten minutes later with Evra again involved. This time the left back produced a pin-point cross into the path of Rooney who volleyed home a superb effort to secure the win for his side.
