5 things we learnt from Castle Lager Premiership Week 24

The Castle Lager Premiership entered its 24th round at the weekend. Here are five things we learnt from the action that took place

Mutuma worth the trouble, despite being a “bad boy”

Rodreck Mutuma

Dynamos striker Roderick Mutuma makes a lot of headlines sometimes for the wrong reasons .In fact Mutuma could easily be labelled the “bad boy” of the ZPSL. This week was no different with Mutuma again reportedly involved in a training bust up with a fellow teammate Takesure Chinyama days before a crucial game. Last year Mutuma apparently wanted to beat up then Dynamos captain Murape Murape after a disagreement. However for all the trouble he brings Mutuma seems to make an impact on games especially the big ones. Mutuma was the hero this weekend as he grabbed the all-important goal to beat Chicken Inn and stay in the league title race. Maybe he is worth having in the team despite the trouble he can bring

CAPS United can score goals and win at home!

Tsipa

Things have not been easy for CAPS United despite new ownership and stability. Goals and good results have been hard to come by especially at home. But against Highlanders CAPS United not only won at home for the first time since July but scored three past Highlanders. It was only their 3rd home win of the 12 games they have played!  Chitembwe was delighted with the win and says it will increase the confidence of his players

Tsholotsho not going down without a fight

With fellow debutants Dongo Sawmills, Flame Lilly and Whawha almost certain to go back to Division One Tsholotsho are refusing to go down easily and are putting on a fight. The rural based outfit held high flying FC Platinum to a goalless draw and could have won the match with a bit more luck. Actually Tsholotsho felt they were robbed of a win and with their fighting spirit you can’t totally rule them out of surviving

Highlanders have not recovered and could be relegated

Highlanders players

Highlanders narrowly beat Flame Lilly 1-0 in Week 23 the win seemed to mark the end of their bad patch and signal a change of fortunes. Well that does not seem to be the case at all. Highlanders were hammered 3-1 by CAPS United .That is their 10th defeat of the season the only teams with a worse record are the three sides at the bottom of the log table Dongo, Flame Lilly and Whawha. Highlanders are now only six points from the dreaded relegation zone!

Dynamos getting the points where it matters

If there is a team that will get results and make it count at the business end of the ZPSL it’s Dynamos Football Club. Facing the risk of being taken out of league title race with a loss Dynamos beat Chicken Inn 1-0.Dynamos struck in the 10th minute and defended well then on to get a crucial three points that keeps Chicken Inn in sight. Ndiraya rightly says Chicken Inn still holds the advantage but history will tell you that you can’t bet against Dembare lifting the title in this position at this time of the season. The next couple of games are going to be very interesting in the title race.
