Michael Owen thinks Anthony Martial is overated

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen insists Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has yet to do anything to impress him.

The young Frenchman arrived at Old Trafford for a fee worth up to €80 million according to various reports, and has gotten off to a flying start, scoring four goals in five appearances, including a debut finish against Liverpool.

However, Owen claims Martial has yet to produce anything for his old side that he believes is worthy of the critical acclaim he is receiving at the moment.

“I am not watching him and he is doing things I haven’t seen before,” Michael Owen told BT Sport.

“He’s not taking my breath away. But you can’t pick any holes in his game right now, he has scored four.

“He has done what he had to do, that was the question mark before he came because he didn’t have a goalscoring record.”

The Englishman cut a similar path in his playing days, making a name for himself as one of the best young players on the planet with Liverpool where he scored 158 goals in 297 appearances.

Owen eventually joined Real Madrid and Manchester United where injury woes struggles kept him at 17 goals in 52 appearances before he retired at Stoke City in 2013.
