Highlanders kick off pre-season preps

Highlanders Football Club set the ball rolling yesterday with their first pre-season training session at Barbourfields Stadium.

More than 30 old and new players including Bosso reserve players attended the training session under the watchful eye of interim coach Cosmos Tsano Zulu.

The interim coaches Amini Soma Phiri and Cosmos Zulu will lead Highlanders pre-season preparations as the club awaits the issuance of a work permit to their new Dutch coach Elroy Akbay.

Soma –Phiri was not available for the first training session with his whereabouts not clear. Amini had indicated has previously registered his frustration at being over looked for the job despite doing a commendable job as a caretaker coach.

Despite losing Obadiah Tarumbwa, Nqobizitha Masuku and Teenage Hadebe whose loan deals expired on December 31, Bosso is likely to retain most of their players from last season.

Tarumbwa and Hadebe crossed the floor to champions Chicken Inn while Masuku has joined FC Platinum and Mthulisi Maphosa is set to join newly promoted Bulawayo City.
