Highlanders cant afford to buy players

Bulawayo giants, Highlanders say they are failing to be active on the transfer market because they are too broke.

Bosso are yet to make any big signing in pre season but instead have lost a number of players that were instrumental in their previous season.

Highlanders have already lost Valentine Ndaba to rivals Dynamos while veteran striker Mthulisi Maphosa did not renew his contract. They also failed to retain Bantu Rovers players Obadiah Tarumbwa, Nqobizitha Masuku and Teenage Hadebe who were on loan at the club.

Speaking in an interview with the Chronicle Highlanders Chairman Peter Dube said the club does not have the financial muscle to buy players on the market but will instead use their Junior Policy to provide new players for the team.

“We haven’t brought in big names for obvious reasons. We can’t afford because the people we compete with are better resourced than us,” said Dube.

Other teams have been active on the transfer market with Rivals Dynamos having already made 7 new additions. Caps United and FC Platinum have also made crucial signings.

Moreso, unlike other teams Highlanders have been quiet on the field of play still yet to play a friendly match and quite crucially their new Dutch Coach Eroy Akbay is not yet in the country to start the preparations ahead of the start of a new season.

Assistant coach Soma Phiri has been overseeing preparations at training sessions.
