ZIFA target revenue from broadcasting rights

ZIFA has outlined plans to start commercialising national team games by getting radio and TV broadcasters to pay for the rights.

Broadcasting rights is one of the biggest revenue generators for football clubs worldwide but ZIFA has been missing out on the opportunity with national TV station ZBC and radio stations broadcasting matches without paying.

However according to ZIFA president Philip Chiyangwa that will now be a think of the past as ZIFA positions its left to be commercially viable.

Chiyangwa told the Herald, “The rights are ours and they can’t be given away for free and from onwards we will ensure that only broadcasters that have paid us a fee to us are allowed to bring cameras or microphones into the stadium.

In 2015 the SA Football Association (Safa) and free to air broadcaster Siyaya TV  signed a new 10-year broadcast agreement reportedly worth a staggering R1 billion replacing the SABC

The Warriors are set to be in action next month in the AFCON qualifiers and ZBC and radio stations will have to pay for the rights.

Supersport has already paid for the rights for AFCON qualifiers from CAF and will be able to continue to screen such matches involving Zimbabwe.
