ZIFA comes top in research study

ZIFA has been recognised as the most open and information accessible public organization in Zimbabwe by a local media think tank.

The annual 2015 report by the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) titled “2015 Report on Open and secretive public institutions in Southern Africa” noted that ZIFA was the most open institution in Zimbabwe.

The research was conducted in five Southern African countries including Zimbabwe, and ZIFA was top in the Zimbabwe category.

“The Zimbabwe Football Association is the most open institution in 2015. The ZIFA website is visually appealing and fairly easy to navigate. The home page is regularly updated, providing the latest news. The website provides details on who to contact for information and it has a policy document on how its operations are governed. They responded to written requests for information swiftly and comprehensively. Questions were sent to them on paper and electronically and they responded,” reads part of the report.

ZIFA has been associated with mismanagement of the local game for a number years but things seem to be changing a the local football governing body under Philip Chiyangwa’s presidency

ZIFA scored 41 points with the National AIDS Council (NAC) coming  second with 33 points. The aim of the research was to evaluate the level of openness in government and public institutions in Zimbabwe. The researchers looked at these institutions’ websites, how they relayed information to the public and their response to written electronic requests.

The institutions which were researched included the Ministries of Psychomotor, Information, Communications and Technology, Local government, Primary and secondary education, Labour and Social welfare and Justice and legal affairs. Public bodies included Environmental Agency (EMA) National Social Security Authority (NSSA), National AIDS Council (NAC), Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and the Zimbabwe Football Association.

Commenting on the recognition ZIFA Communications Manager Xolisani Gwesela said he was happy for the recognition and elaborated that as a public organisation they will continue to release information that is of public interest.

“As the football mother body, we feel honored to be declared as the most open and information accessible organisation. We shall continue releasing information that is of public interest since we are accountable to the public,” Gwesela told the Association’s official website.
