Akbay wants more from Highlanders

Despite their 4-2 penalty shootout triumph over city rivals Chicken Inn in a ZNA Charity Shield quarter final tie yesterday , Highlanders head coach Erol Akbay says there is still a lot of work to be done with regards to his charges.

“I am happy that we won. We will always play to win. However, in the first half the boys were not in the game. In the second half they really played like people who wanted to win. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done. My emphasis is on possession play which we did not display much,” said Akbay.

Akbay said his 2016 target was to finish in the top four.

His Chicken Inn counterpart, Prince Matore who was in charge as Joey Antipas took a mini break, said they will not read much into the result.

“We never fielded fringe players. The players that you saw playing have contracts with Chicken Inn. We will not read much into the result. We are still in the preseason and we are still working on one or two combinations,” said Matore.

Chicken Inn rested their regulars that include captain Danny Phiri, goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze, Edmore Chirambadare and Lawrence Mhlanga.

Tafadzwa Kutinyu also did not feature while striker Mitchell Katsvairo started from the bench .
