Man City, Atletico Madrid reach UCL quarter-finals

Manchester City booked a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history after barely breaking a sweat against Dynamo Kiev at the Etihad Stadium.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side played out a goalless draw, which included just four shots on target, but progressed into the next phase thanks to their 3-1 triumph in Ukraine almost three weeks ago.

A sudden-death penalty from Juanfran has sent Atletico Madrid through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League at the expense of PSV Eindhoven.

The two sides played out 90 minutes without a goal during the first leg in Eindhoven last month and a further 120 goalless minutes in the Spanish capital tonight, meaning that a penalty shootout was required to determine who progressed to the last eight of the tournament.

Following seven successful penalties apiece, PSV substitute Luciano Narsingh rattled the crossbar and veteran Atletico defender Juanfran stepped up to send the Vicente Calderon wild in celebration
