Zimbabwe beat Zambia to book a place at Cameroon AWCON

The Mighty Warriors made another piece of History beating Zambia and ending a 10 year drought to qualify to the Africa Women Cup of Nations to be hosted by Cameroon in October this year.

The Women National team who were carrying 1-0 first leg lead managed to beat Zambia 3-2 in their own back yard in a rather difficult match.

The Mighty Warriors opened the scoring in the 7th minute through Kudakwashe Basopo in the first half they hugely dominated. However Noria Sosala equalized for the hosts in the 24th minute.

The enterprising Samkelisiwe Zulu was able to restore the lead with 6 minutes before halftime taking the Mighty Warriors to the breather with a 3-1 aggregate lead and quite importantly 2 valuable away goals.

The Shepolopolo ladies game back in the second half the much stronger team and through their pressure they were awarded a penalty they converted to draw level.

The goal appeared to have motivated the ladies to go ahead but the Zimbabwe goalkeeper Chido was unyielding between the sticks.

Zimbabwe had the last laugh with Emmaculate Msipha scoring on the stroke of fulltime to restore Zimbabwe’s lead and subsequently carried the day with a 4-2 aggregate win.

The win marked a remarkable year for head coach Shadreck Mlauzi and his Technical team after having led the same to the Rio 2016 Olympics games.

Go Mighty Warriors Go!!!
