Battle of Zimbabwe takes centre stage

It never gets bigger in Local football than Dynamos versus Highlanders. The country’s biggest rivalry will be on the cards today in matchday 8 of the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League at Rufaro Stadium.

Though Dynamos have bossed their rivals in the last decade, Bosso may feel this could be the time to break the jinx. Highlanders has failed to beat Dynamos in the last 10 years having last tasted victory back in 2016.

Last season Dynamos beat Highlanders in Harare 3-2 before forcing a 1-1 draw at Babourfields stadium.

If current form is anything to go by, Highlanders will fancy their chances to get the better of Dynamos. The Bulawayo giants can boast of having the sharpest strikeforce scoring the most goals so far in the season. They currently sit on position 5 on the log, just 6 points behind log leaders FC Platinum.

On the other hand, Dynamos will be reeling heavily under pressure as they are enduring one of their worst seasons ever. The Harare giants sit in unfamiliar territory on position 12 just one point above relegation zone. They have managed just 2 wins while their strikers have only managed one goal between them.

Dynamos coach Lloyd Mutasa will be in charge of his 3rd match since taking over Paulo Jorge Silva and will be well aware the Dynamos faithfuls will want nothing shot of victory. Mutasa’s biggest worry will be in strikeforce were the team is just impotent. They have scored just 3 goals in their opening seven matches. Ocean Mushure’s penalty conversion saved the team against Tsholotsho.

The question is will Highlanders take their chances, New coach Elroy Akbay will take charge of his first Battle of Zimbabwe. Earlier in the week the coach said he will not bank on History but is focusing on beating Dynamos sharing the same sentiments as Dynamos coach Lloyd Mutasa.

A win for Highlanders will see them return to second position on the table, three points behind leaders FC Platinum. Should Dynamos prevail, the Glamour Boys will climb to seventh in the 16 team assembly.

A draw will keep the two teams in their current positions.
