Report: Chapungu 1-2 Dynamos

Report: Chapungu 1-2 Dynamos

Dynamos celebrated like they had won the championship after edging a battling Chapungu 2 – 1 at Ascot Stadium in a Castle Lager premiership encounter.

Goals by Masimba Mambare in the 20th minute and a King Nasama diving header in the 23rd minute were enough to give the Glamour Boys maximum points while the hosts got their goal from Hillary Mugoniwa.

The Glamour Boys survived an opening 10 minutes scare when Chapungu surged ahead in the 8th minute through Hillary Mugoniwa who had latched on to a Cleopas Kapupurika cross to rifle home a shot from inside the box to give Dynamos stand in goalkeeper, Tonderai Mateyaunga no chance.

The visitors responded positively to the onslaught and soon found their rhythm could have restored parity in the 15th minute when Masimba Mambare did well well to control the ball after being fed from the blind side but his effort went over the bar with Roy Mazingi in goals for Chapungu to beat.

However, Mambare made no mistake 5 minutes later when he caught the Chapungu defence at sea and made no mistake from a diving header off a Godknows Murwira cross.

King Nasana then gave Chapungu the lead 3 minutes later when he connected an Ocean Mushure cross through a diving header from almost a similar position of that of Mambare’s opener leaving Mazingi stranded.

Chapungu skipper, Phillip Marufu had the chance to restore parity in the 35th minute but fired just wide with Mateyaunga to beat after he had been fed by Xolani Ncube.

The second half saw Chapungu coming back a determined side as they took the game to their opponents while Dembare were happy to sit back and wait for their opponents to come back at them.

However, chances which came Chapungu’s way were wasted with the main culprits being Marufu and Allen Tavarwisa fluffing all the chances which came their way.

In the end Dembare held on until the final whistle torching wild celebrations at Ascot Stadium.
