CAPS United don’t want Dynamos relegated

CAPS United have hit back at a report that suggested club chairman Advocate Lewis Uriri had said he wanted their  rivals Dynamos to be relegated.

A report in Newsday stated that Uriri had said it was his desire to see Dynamos play in the Northern Region Division One league.

However the club have stated Uriri’s words at a weekly press conference were put out of context and have been sensationalised. Part of a statement from the club read:

The CAPS United family was shocked and left in disbelief by an exaggerated, misrepresented and sensationalized headline and article in the The News Day to the effect that our Board Chairman, Advocate Dr Lewis Uriri had said on behalf of CAPS United that “we wish Dynamos to get relegated”

Uriri said, it would be good to have a competitive Dynamos vying for Honours and said it would be equally good for Zimbabwe football for Dynamos to play in the Northern Region Division 1 adding that “imagine 40 000 fans watching Dynamos playing Flame Lily in Division 1.

However the club said Uriri had stated this jokingly and denied his desire to have their rivals relegated.

In addition CAPS United stated that as much as the clubs are football rivals, they share a great relationship and heritage with Dynamos and it would be a tragedy for the premiership should they were be relegated. It is not a secret that Dynamos play a pivotal role in Zimbabwean football added the statement.

CAPS United have demanded an apology from Newsday as well.

Dynamos have had a poor start to the season while CAPS United find themselves just two points from the top. The  Green Machine also ended their league jinx against Dynamos this season.
