Real Madrid fail to surpass Barcelona record after draw

Real Madrid streak of wins was halted last night when they were held to a one all draw by Villareal.

Zinedine Zidane side had equalled Barcelona 16 straight La Liga victories under Pep Guardiola but could not go one better after the draw.

Villareal went ahead just before the halftime break when they were awarded a penalty after Ramos had handled in the box.

Three minutes after half time Ramos redeemed himself when he scored with a header. Real  Madrid went all out for the winning goal by Villareal held on to clinch a point.

Real Madrid on top of the standings with 13 points from five games with Sevilla in second with 11 points and Barcelona in third with 10 points.

In other matches Barcelona and Atletico also played out a 1-1 draw. Rakitic opened the scoring in the 41st minute with a glancing header.

In the 61st minute Atletico Madrid equalised through Correa who found himself free after s lip by Mascherano to score.

Both teams then had chances to score more but cancelled each other out.The draw came at a cost for Barcelona with Lionel Messi was stretchered off with a groin injury that is expected to keep him out for at least three weeks.
