ZIFA raises the bar for coaches

All Premier Soccer League coaches and their assistants will need to have at least a CAF A and local Level 4 (Advanced Level) licences for the 2017 season according to a directive from ZIFA.

The association said its part of moving towards standardising qualifications for local coaches at all levels starting from grassroots football [6-12-year-olds] through to national team level

The move is meant to ensure that footballers produced in the country match international football standards  and ultimately break into competitive  leagues said a statement from ZIFA Technical Director, Tawurayi Mangwiro.

According to ZIFA , the country now boasts of 41 CAF A licence holders, 114 CAF B holders and 193 CAF C licenced coaches.

However move is likely to affect a number of top flight coaches and current assistant with some understood to not be in possession of the required qualifications.

In addition even coaches at Primary and Secondary schools and any other junior teams should have a minimum qualification of local Level 2 and Grassroots certificate in coaching.
