Ronaldo credits haters for success

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has given a fresh interview with Coach Magazine this week.

During the question and answer session, Ronaldo talked about how his haters spur him on, the managers who have influenced him during his career, and of course Leo Messi.

When it came to his detractors, Cristiano made the following remarks:

Q: What’s the most important lesson football taught you?

A: To use negative people and experiences to motivate you. I actually need my haters – they have helped me achieve all I have achieved.

The Los Blancos star was also asked to discuss which opposing players he admires most. Cristiano said:

There is a big mutual respect between myself and Lionel Messi. The media like to make out like we have this big rivalry, but we don’t. It is not like we are good friends, but there is a mutual respect on both sides.

When it came to discussing his toughest opponent on the pitch, Ronaldo turned back the clock to state:

Over the years I had some great battles with Ashley Cole – he doesn’t give you a second to breathe. He was such a tenacious player, quick, tough in the tackle – when he was at his peak. You knew it would never be an easy game.
