Mkosana clinches NASL title in the USA

Zimbabwean born Lucky Mkosana clinched the North American Soccer League (NASL) with US side New York Cosmos at the weekend

Mkosana joined the club in 2014 and has been part of Cosmos since then.

It was Cosmos second consecutive (NASL)Championship and eighth overall and won by defeating Indy Eleven 4-2 on penalties after a scoreless 120 minutes at the Belson Stadium.

The NASL is the division just below the Major Soccer League (MLS). Mkosana is not the only player from Africa at Cosmos with Kenyan international David Ochieng also at the club.

Born in Bulawayo Mkosana (29) played for Dartmouth College where he earned a bachelor’s degree and graduated in 2012.

His stand put performance saw him selected by Chicago Fire in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, but never signed for the Fire, opting instead to join the Harrisburg City Islanders.

He scored 20 goals and tallied four assists in 41 games for the USL Pro club.  In 2013 he joined the Tampa Bay Rowdies before joining Cosmos in 2014.

Mkosana has continued to upgrade his education while pursuing his  football career and is one of two Cosmos players that have enrolled have enrolled at the Sports Management MBA Program at Universidad Europea de Madrid in Spain, a school the Cosmos recently signed a partnership with.
