Champions League: Barca, Arsenal and Man City secure Knockout stage

Lionel Messi scored twice as Barcelona booked their spot in the knockout round of the Champions League with a 2-0 win over Celtic in Scotland on Wednesday night.

Messi netted once in either half on his return to the team as the Spanish champions secured all the points to advance into the round of 16 as winners of Group C. Meanwhile, Celtic’s European journey is now over ahead of their final group match away to Manchester City next month.

Rostov picked up their first ever victory in the Champions League courtesy of a shock 3-2 triumph over Bayern Munich at the Stadion Olimp-2.

The Russian outfit had earned just one point from their previous four games in their debut campaign at this level, but they recovered from a goal down to pick up a famous win.

Arsenal have dropped down to second place in Group A after being held to a 2-2 draw by Paris Saint-Germain.

A win for Arsene Wenger’s side would have ensured that they would take their place among the seeds when the draw for the knockout stages is made next month, but a late own goal from Alex Iwobi left the Premier League side facing the prospect of finishing as runners-up.

Manchester City sealed a place in the last 16 of the Champions League with a 1-1 draw against Borussia Monchengladbach at Borussia-Park.
