Mighty Warriors bow out of AFCON with Cameroon defeat

The Zimbabwe Mighty Warriors has disappointingly bowed out the Women Africa Cup of Nations after going down 2-0 against hosts Cameroon.

The Mighty Warriors started the the game needing nothing shot of victory whilst their counterparts could afford resting key players as they had secured top finish.

In their quest, Zimbabwe got off to a worst possible start conceding a goal right in the first minute of the game through an Akaba strike.

The hosts looked sharp from the onset with some attacking flare but Zimbabwe defended anxiously from time to time.

Mighty Warriors gradually imposed themselves in the game but were wasteful especially with set pieces and poor decision making when through in front of goal.

The teams went to the breather with Cameroon leading one nil.

Zimbabwe came from the break with intent to score and could have equalized immediately by Makoto shot weakly at goal.

5 minutes into the second half Akaba was at it again as the Zimbabwean defence was caught napping completing a brace after some enterprising play from the right.

From that point, the Zimbabwean fate appeared to be sealed. The ladies however put up a spirited show in search of a priceless tournament goal, but alas it proved alas.

Zimbabwe finish the tournament bottom of group A with just a point but sadly with no goal scored.

In the other group match South Africa walloped Egypt 2 nil to seal a semi final spot in position 2.
