Lionel Messi Youngest To Reach 100 UEFA Champions League Games

FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi has become the youngest player to reach 100 UEFA Champions League games following the Catalans’ 1-1 draw against Roma.

The superstar played in a milestone 100th game in the European competition on Wednesday night, becoming the youngest player, at 28 years old, to reach the century.

Only 33 players have reached triple digits in the Champions League, with Messi joining the likes of former teammates Carles Puyol, Xavi Hernandez and Víctor Valdes.

The man Messi always finds himself being compared to, Cristiano Ronaldo, has featured 120 times in the illustrious competition and scored 80 goals, while the Argentine has 77 strikes next to his name.

The Barcelona talisman’s milestone match was somewhat overshadowed by a long-range wonder goal from Roma’s Alessandro Florenzi, whose equaliser could go down as one of the greatest UCL strikes ever.

Along with the 77 goals in the Champions League, Messi has also managed 33 assists in a competition he’s won three times for Barcelona, the most recent being last season’s triumph against Juventus.
