Government to appeal Warriors World Cup ban

New Minister of Sports and recreation Makhosini Hlongwane has reiterated the government’s desire to appeal the Warriors 2018 World Cup ban.

Zimbabwe were banned from the World Cup qualifiers after failing to pay a debt owed to former head coach Valinhos .The debt is believed to be around $60 000.

The then Cuthbert Dube lead administration was criticised among fans and stakeholders for taking its time to pay up the debt and not sufficiently deal with the matter.

However Hlongwane revealed yesterday that a delegation would pay FIFA a visit next week to appeal the ban.

Hlongwane believes Zimbabwe have a strong case and the decision was too harsh.

We are leaving for Zurich next week to appeal Zimbabwe’s ban Hlongwane told reporters in Bulawayo yesterday.

With the first round of the qualifiers already underway it remains to be seen whether FIFA will overturn the decision.
