Official: Chiyangwa to run ZIFA Presidency

Flamboyant businessman Philip Chiyangwa has officially announced that he will run for the ZIFA Presidency.

ZIFA are set to hold presidential elections after ouster of Cuthbert Dube. Chiyangwa had been linked to the post and had indicated he would consider and has now confirmed his participation.

Chiyangwa announced his intentions to run for the post via a video post and also released his manifesto ‘dubbed the 12 points of Light’.

The 12 key points aim to turn Zimbabwean football into a viable and professional operation where players and stakeholders benefit.

Chiyangwa has also roped in CAPS United owner Farai Jere who will be his campaign manager. Jere had also been linked to the ZIFA and admitted at a press conference on Thursday that a number of approaches had been made.

Jere backed Chiyangwa and said he work to ensure their team will win the elections.

Chiyangwa has already started ‘campaigning’ after he bailed out the Warriors squad for their trip to Lesotho.

Chiyangwa reportedly gave the team $10 000 to clear the Warriors allowances and bonuses which had threatened to disrupt preps for their CHAN qualifier.
