Dutchman starts working at Highlanders

Highlanders potential head coach Erol Akbay has reportedly already started working with the club after arriving in the country this week.

Akbay a Dutchman is one of several coaches to have applied for the Highlanders’ head coach position but seems to have already landed the post after taking charge of the Highlanders juniors squad yesterday.

According to the Chronicle Akbay’s first training session was attended by members of the executive that included Highlanders chairman Peter Dube.

Akbay was recommended by Highlanders benefactor Tshinga Dube and this time the club seems to have listened to him.

Earlier in the year Dube had expressed his dismay after Highlanders had hired Bongani Mafu when he had been keen to bank roll a foreign coach.

Akbay is now set to watch and observe Highlanders’ coming games including their home against Buffaloes this weekend at Barbourfields.

Not much is known about Erol Akbay but his profile online points to several positions he had held in the lower league of Dutch football.

According to his online profile his last coaching job was at Holland 2nd division side Hvv Hengelo.
