Masomere challenges ZIFA councillors

Ahead of the much awaited December 5 Zifa elections, outspoken Luke Masomere has challenged the associations councillors to highly consider “football people into office”

He said for the next two years, and even possibly beyond, Zimbabwean football could take new steps if the councillors consider giving football person a chance to rule at Zifa.

“We need to try ideal football in office. People should not come and just try their luck at a football association said Masomere

“Why should they not go and join other associations like the one for Cross Border Traders. We cannot continue to suffer.

“We need someone who knows about players and coaches welfare. We need someone who understands football. All what we want is good governance.”

Two businessmen, one based in Harare and the other in South Africa respectively, Phillip Chiyangwa and Trevor David Carelse Juul are in the race for the presidency together with former Premier Soccer League and Dynamos secretary Leslie Gwindi and former Ziscosteel and Warriors player James Takavada.

Juul is facing disqualification as the new constitution says candidates should have been resident within the jurisdiction of Zifa in the last five years.

He might appeal since he did take part in the 2014 elections under the same laws and the assembly, according to sources, is not aware when that clause was inserted.
