Zimbabwean referees spark controversy at World Cup qualifier

Despite Zimbabwe Warriors’ absence at the World Cup qualifiers, a storm involving Zimbabwean referees has been brewed after referee Norman Matemera disallowed what appeared to be a genuine goal for Comoros against giants Ghana.

The Black Stars were on Friday held to a 0-0 in their Russia 2018 world cup qualifier first leg match against Comoros.

However the major talking point will be the disallowed goal that would have seen Comoros make history with a win over Ghana.

Matemera allowed a mistake by his assistant referee Tapfumaneyi Mutengwa to stand denying Comoros a goal.

The islanders of Comoros are seething with anger after being denied victory over Ghana in the 2018 World Cup qualifying round.

Reports from Comoros suggest that the Football association in that country will lodge a complaint at FIFA over the disallowed goal.
