ZIFA sends begging bowl

Despite electing a new president the problems at ZIFA continue with the cash strapped association making an appeal to Government and stakeholders for money to sponsor Warriors’ participation at CHAN 2016 in January.

The Warriors have started their preparations for the January tournament to be hosted by Rwanda but unavailability of finance threatens to destabilise the preparations set by coach Calisto Pasuwa.

ZIFA Chief executive Officer Jonathan Mashangaidze says the Football mother body needs $150 000 for camping, allowances, airfares, lodgings in Zimbabwe, upkeep of the players in Rwanda.

Mashaingaidze was quoted by the Herald saying,

“National teams are a national responsibility and all stakeholders need to pool resources and not to leave it all to a poor federation. In terms of potential, one cannot doubt that we have it hence we have been to every CHAN tournament using homegrown talent.” said Mashingaidze.

Mashingaidze added that the association has targeted to better the 4th place attained at the previous tournament.

Zimbabwe is in Group D alongside Mali, Uganda, Zambia. The tournament will be held in Rwanda from January 16 to February 7 2016.
