ZIFA lift all Asiagate bans

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) executive committee has resolved to lift all Asiagate bans with immediate effect.

The committee held a meeting at ZIFA head office today and decided on removal of all the bans as well as other resolutions.

The resolution closes the infamous chapter in local football history where several players , officials and even journalists were implicated in match-fixing national team and club games working with serial fixer Wilson Raj Perumal (pictured above) who was later arrested.

The list of people that were originally handed life-time bans were:

Henrietta Rushwaya, Jonathan Musavengana, Kudzai Shabba, Sunday Chidzambwa, Thompson Matenda, Godfrey Japajapa, Rodwell Dhlakama, Emmanuel Nyahuma, Robson Sharuko, Edmore Sibanda, Danisa Phiri, Thomas Sweswe, Guthrie Zhokinyi, Method Mwanjali, Hope Chizuzu

However inconsistencies in the investigation process and failure to bring scandal to an end saw even world football governing body not endorsing the Cuthbert Dube’s lead ZIFA’s recommendations.

Some of the other resolutions announced include ZIFA President Dr Phillip Chiyangwa to assume COSAFA, CAF and FIFA standing committee positions held by the previous ZIFA President Cuthbert Dube.

The committee also resolved to conduct ZIFA elections to fill vacant positions. Among the positions that ZIFA want to conduct elections for is the Premier Soccer League chairmanship despite Twine Phiri currently occupying the post.

ZIFA have requested to meet the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League board of governors on the 12th of January 2016 at Crown Plaza Hotel likely to talk about the matter.

Twine Phiri has already defended attempts to remove him from the position insisting only the PSL had the power to remove his mandate.
