Pasuwa defends his youthful Warriors

National team coach Calisto Pasuwa who arrived back in the country from a disastrous outing in Rwanda CHAN 2016 tournament has defended his Warriors side amidst heavy criticism.

Pasuwa touched down with the larger contingent of the side who touched down yesterday as the first batch. The other member are expected today.

The team performed dismally at the tournament managing just a single point from a possible 9. They drew against Uganda while losing to Zambia and Mali subsequently anchoring group D.

Soccer Fans and media houses have been critical of the situation and many have branded the History making coach a failure and have drawn out daggers and axes asking for Pasuwa to be sacked.

Amongst these is Higher education Minister Prof Moyo who alleged that the technical team was technically bankrupt. Veteran sports Broadcaster Mike Madoda also shared the same sentiments.

In an interview after arrival, though admitting that he is no longer sure of his fate as coach, Pasuwa defended the Warriors saying they are youthful and inexperienced.

“Supporters should also understand that there are decisions to make, it would be very unfair to some of the youngsters, remember this team was assembled last year and most of the guys were Under-23 so we want to see progression of these youngsters.”, said Pasuwa.

“It was their first major tournament to play for the senior side and had they had some friendly matches it was going to be better for them but, again, we failed, we know that, and I’m sorry about that.”, he added.
