Mutare City Rovers declared Eastern Region champions

ZIFA has declared Mutare City Rovers Eastern Region champions paving the way for them to participate in the upcoming Premier Soccer League season.

Masvingo United had contested Mutare City’s Eastern Championship title claiming and accusing them of using two  ineligible player Dylan Chivandire and Tafadzwa Mkahlera.

Masvingo United alleged that Chivandire had not received his reverse clearance after leaving a Botswana side. Masvingo finished in  second place with 68points with Mutare City piping them to the title with 69 points.

The case had been dragging for months while being handled by the Zifa Players’ Status Committee and even threatened the start of the Premier Soccer League season.

However ZIFA have finally ruled that Masvingo United’s case was frivolous and subsequently thrown out. In addition ZIFA has ordered disciplinary proceedings against Masvingo United for failing to pay the necessary player status fees as required.

Mutare City will join Ngezi Platinum, Bulawayo City and Border Strikers as the new boys in the ZPSL.
