Warriors wants National Sports Stadium for the AFCON match against the Swazi

The Zimbabwe Senior National team wants to use the giant National Sports Stadium for the upcoming crucial AFCON qualifier against Swaziland and have requested the Confederation of African Football to certify the venue in time for the match set for Easter Monday.

The National Sports Stadium has not been used for international matches since it was closed for renovations leaving only Babourfields stadium and Rufaro Stadium the only other options.

The Warriors last match in the qualifiers was a 1-1 draw against Guinea at Rufaro.

Coach Pasuwa made the recommendations for the use of the National Sports Stadium prompting ZIFA to call CAF inspectors to come and reinspect the facility.

ZIFA CEO Jonathan Mashingaidze has already written to CAF:

“The Zimbabwe Football Association in receipt of your letter dated 25 February, 2016 pertaining the above (Inspection of the National Sports Stadium for the 2017 African Cup of Nations campaign 2016) and hereby acknowledge its contents.

“The association requests that your esteemed office and person send an inspector who should inspect the National Sports Stadium ahead of our fixture against Swaziland on 25 March, 2016.

“The National Sports Stadium in the biggest stadium in the land and has been home to Zimbabwe’s biggest international assignments. May you confirm you will be able to come to Zimbabwe for an inspection visit,’’ Mashingaidze said as quoted by the Herald.

Meanwhile coach Pasuwa is expected to name the squad for the tie with the coach spoiled for choice considering Zimbabwean players are impressing throughout the globe.

The Warriors are currently tied at the top with Swaziland and victory in the back to back fixtures will be a morale booster for the team in their quest for continental showpiece.

The Warriors will travel to Swaziland for the first of the clashes on March 25 (Good Friday) and then host Sihlangu in Harare on Easter Monday.
