Report: Harare City beaten by Zanaco

Harare City suffered a 2-1 defeat in the CAF Confederation Cup at the hands of Zambian side Zanaco at Rufaro Stadium.

The match saw both teams’ gets early chances in the first half but it was the visitors that dominated proceedings with early pressure.

Ronald Chitiyo had a great chance to put Harare City in the lead but could only put his header straight to the keeper in the 15th minute.

In the 35th minute Zanaco took the lead with Aubrey Funga heading in the impressive Zulu’s cross after poor marking from Mangwiro’s team.

Halftime came with Zanaco leading. Harare City searched for the equaliser in the second half but it was Zanaco that doubled their lead with seven minutes till full-time.

Rodrick Kabwe scored with a well taken free kick just outside the box. To their credit Harare City pulled one back in the 87th minute through substitute Tanaka Ruzvidzo. In stoppage time Ronald Chitiyo had a great chances to equalise but somehow headed over with the goal at his mercy.

Harare City will now need a win in the second leg to stand a chance of proceeding to the next round with head coach Taurai Mangwiro confident they can turn things around.
