Sundowns crash out of CAF Champions League as 8 teams progress

Mamelodi Sundowns crashed out of the CAF Champions League despite winning 2-1 last night against AS Vita but punished for being wasteful.

The DRC side go through to the group stages of the competition on the away goals rule after the match finished 2-2 on aggregate.

AS Vita took the lead in the 39th minute through Kule Mbombo before Thabo Nthethe equalised from the penalty spot after Fernando Castro had been brought down.

In the second half Tebogo Langerma gave Sundowns the lead .However Sundowns could not get another goal despite numerous chances that came their way. Khama Billiat, Malajila and Castro all had opportunities to score but failed to do so.

The loss will see Sundowns play in the CAF Confederation Cup. Meanwhile Zimbabwe international Donald Ngoma was on target for for Tanzania side Young African Sports Club(Yanga) but they succumbed to a late goal against Egyptian giants Al Ahly to lose 2-1 and 3-2 on aggregate.

Earlier in the day former champions TP Mazembe were knocked out by Raja Casablanca.

Meanwhile eight teams have made it to through stages of the CAF Champions League. The eight are : AS Vita, Wydad Casablanca, Al Ahly, ASEC Abidjan, Enyimba, Zesco United, Zamalek, ES Setif.
