Struggling premiership debutants Mutare City Rovers gave Dynamos gaffer a reprieve after they were beaten 1-2 in a Castle Lager Premier League match that was played at Sakubva stadium yesterday.

“Gusha Bhora” as the Mutare municipal police outfit is known by its supporters trooped into their favorite hunting ground hoping to capitalise on the confusion that has been a common landscape in DeMbare camp but their hopes were thwarted with a Kudzanai Nyakasaka early goal in the 6th minute.

The Dynamos forward took advantage of Phillip Nhete blind pass to his midfielders and prevailed against defender Munyaradzi Sako, and filing the ball in between Nhete’s legs.

That early goal unsettled the home team as they desperately looked for an equaliser.

Despite having demoted Kenneth “Bokande” Kachara to being assistant toformer Hartley Academy coach Taku Shariwa after the municipal team were thumped 1-4 in Harare by fellow Harare City a fortnight ago, the football gods seemed not to be smiling at the Mutare side as they are still firmly rooted at the bottom of the league table.

Referee of the day Pedzisai Chadya had to halt the match in the 15th minute after second assistant linesman Varaidzo Samushonga was brought down by Valentine Ndaba and Arnold Nyakabawo who were chasing the ball on the touchline.

The match resumed two minutes later and both teams went for oranges with Gusha still trying to find the back of the net for the Glamour Boys.

During the second half, Rodrick Mutuma who came as a substitute for Nasama King added his name on the score sheet in the 85th minute.

Versatile player Kudakwashe Gurure who also featured in the second half managed to secure a consolation goal for City Rovers in the 92nd minute of play.

The 2-1 win against Mutare City Rovers has given the DeMbare gaffer Jorge Paulo Silva a lifeline as he is already sitting on a three match ultimatum in which he is expected to produce nine points or kiss goodbye to the Glamour Boys family.
