Highlanders to appear before PSL disciplinary committee

Highlanders have been summoned to a discipline hearing by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) for the violence that took place following the draw with Chicken Inn.

Highlanders fans invaded the pitch and threw missiles forcing riot police to retreat and leaving one police officer injured.

According to the Match Commissioner’s Report:

Confusion then ensured as Highlanders players confronted the assistant referee demanding that he should have signalled for offside.

Meanwhile the Chicken Inn players confronted the referee presumably for ending the game when their team was in a very good scoring position.

Supporters on the Southeren/Soweto end-mainly in Highlanders colours started throwing missiles on the pitch. As the police moved in to try and control the situation more missiles were thrown and the supporters then invaded the pitch throwing more missiles even at the police.

Some of the supporters from the Eastern stand joined in the pandemonium forcing the police to retreat to the tunnels despite using dogs to scare away spectators.

Highlanders will appear before the disciplinary committee on the 8th of September.
