Highlanders going for the title says Akbay

Highlanders coach Erol Akbay has declared that Bosso are now in a better position to whisk away the Zimbabwe Premiership title after his charges ended Harare City dominance with a 1 nil at Rufaro.

Highlanders fans have every reason to believe that they could end a 10 year dry spell and land the premiership title which has alluded them over the years. It was the first time Bosso beat Harare City at Rufaro Stadium since the Sunshine boys gained promotion back in 2012 and quite interestingly it was the first goal that Bosso had scored past their opponents.

Just this season alone, Dutch coach Erol Akbay has broken so many jinxes that had been troubling the Bulawayo giants and every Bosso fan has the right to believe a 10 year title barren jinx can be broken.

Highlanders are in the form of a life and yesterday’s win courtesy of a second half strike by Allan Gahadzikwa means that Highlanders have cut down to just 4 points the gap between themselves and log leaders FC Platinum.

With 6 games remaining to play, an ecstatic Akbay told the Chronicle that Bosso are now focusing on the title.

“They (FC Platinum and Caps United) dropped the points and that means we have moved two points closer to these guys and that will give them more pressure to win every game and motivation for us to win also every game.

“We have six games to go now and there is a difference of four points, it’s not too much. That means if you have a chance you have to go for it and we want to go for the championship, yes.

“This game is good motivation. To win the next game again is very important,” said Akbay.

Bosso next match will be another tricky affair against Ngezi Platinum at Babourfields Stadium on Sunday.
