Nyasha Mushekwi visited his former club Djurgarden at Stockholm Olympic Stadium on Tuesday evening to see Djurgarden play U21 game against Halmstad. Mushekwi appearence in Sweden sparked a media frenzy with rumours clummering of an emminent return to the blue-striped shirt.

When Djurgarden announced the loan of Nyasha Mushekwi in the beginning of April 2015, there were few who believed that the then 27-year-old striker would make a major mark in the league.
The Zimbabwean proved to be pure cobra in front of goal and the striker stepped up match after match to become a hero for Djurgarden. In the first nine matches he scored nine goals and many realized suddenly that the Djurgarden would find it hard to keep Mushekwi, whose loan agreement expired at the end of August.
In the away match against Malmo FF in early June, he made a name for himself and the fans who affectionately called him “Super Mush” -realised at Swedbank Stadiun that he had became a new classic. On August 24 last year Mushekwi nodded in 2-2 in the derby against Hammarby. The goal would prove to be his last, because there were no more appearances in Dif-shirt without Mushekwi then returned to his South African club Mamelodi Sundowns.
In December, he left South Africa for Dalian Yifang in the Chinese second league, where it has become a huge success. In June, he led top scorer along with former superstar Luis Fabiano. Overall, he has scored 17 goals in 25 games and is still gunning for more.
“I have not made so many goals that I want to do, but it is just to focus on the next season”, he says to FotbollDirekt.se.
The striker is on holiday in Sweden and he took the opportunity to check Djurgårdens U21 team against Halmstads ditto at Stockholm Stadium. FD had a chat with the striker and his love of Djurgården can not be mistaken.
“I had a Break so I would come and see guys like this at the end of the season.”
“I follow the guys, but it’s not so easy to do it online. Matches that I have seen, they have done well. I did not see the derby against AIK recently, I only saw the results on live scores and it was not good haha.”
Just five days after derby loss showed Djurgården strength when they defeated the reigning champions IFK Norrkoping 3-1. The match saw Mushekwi and he lit up when asked what he thought about it.
“Yes, it was very good. I was so excited. I’m just here in Sweden for a while so it was fun, I’m so happy for the guys.”
Mushekwi will see Djurgårdens home game against Orebro on Sunday before traveling back to China. He is very impressed by the team’s new striker, Michael Olunga, who scored eight goals in the last eight matches. Mushekwi at the time had a total of 12 goals in the Premier Division Dif-shirt and the question is whether Kenyan Olunga catches up with the figure. Mushekwi looking forward to see Olunga in action on Sunday.
“He is very good. Furthermore, this is his first season, next year he will be even better, even if he already made it great”
How much do you miss the car?
Sweden is my second home. My girlfriend is here and it is like home. It feels like I’ve come home again. It is starting to get cold here, but everything else is good.
Life in China then, how is it?
It’s a new experience, a new life. There are exciting new challenges and it is important to discover new things.
Djurgården fans can, however, begin to hope for a comeback for Mushekwi in the blue-striped link. When he left Djurgarden in August last year, he promised that one day he will return, and he certainly seems still hungry for it.
“I hope I play in Djurgarden again soon, I hope. Mr. Bo (sports director Bosse Andersson) talked about it so I hope it happens soon, but we’ll see how it goes. In football life do not know how it ends, but I hope to be back very soon and play with my boys again.”
