Khama Billiat and Peter Ndlovu on the brink of history

Khama Billiat could become the first Zimbabwean player to win the CAF Champions League if Mamelodi Sundowns manage to get past Zamalek over two legs in the final of the competition.

Sundowns take on the Egyptian giants this afternoon in the first leg in Pretoria with the South African league champions keen to seize advantage ahead of a potentially tricky away fixture in North Africa.

Sundowns could have the slight psychological advantage having beaten Zamalek twice already this year.

Billiat has been a key figure throughout Sundowns campaign in the African safari and has stood out on a number of occasions.

Speaking ahead of the final earlier in the week Billiat highlighted the need to make the most of match and suggested the loss to Bidvest Wits in the MTN8 final was a wakeup call.

“It’s a big lesson what we learnt. We love learning and we can’t choose the way we learn sometimes. That defeat was a wake-up call for us,”  Billiat told the South African media

“I’m sure we are ready for anything right now and we don’t want to do the same mistake. We can make mistakes that we never done before, we are strong, we watch our games. We even watch the game we lost to be better in the next game.

“We don’t want to lose again, it was so hard to digest. But at the end of the day, we don’t have much time to cry and mourn. We have to come back and do things right.”

Zimbabwean football legend Peter Ndlovu who is part of the Mamelodi Sundowns technical team will also make history if they do go past Zamalek.
