World Cup qualifier: South Africa beat Senegal

South Africa secured their first win in the 2018 World Cup qualifierS when the beat Senegal 2-1 at the Peter Makoba Stadium this afternoon.

Bafana Bafana went into the lead in the 42nd minute in controversial fashion when Thulani Hlatshwayo scored from a penalty after the referee had incorrectly adjudged Senegal of a handball.

Three minutes a good move saw Thulani Serero finish well to make it 2-0.

The second half belonged to Senegal as they fought back to get back into the game. Cheik Ndoye pulled one back for Senegal in the 75th minute.

Senegal continued piling the pressure and South Africa were forced into desperate defending but held on to claim the win.

With the Warriors set to meet Senegal at AFCON 2017 the match was an eye opener to assess the “Lions of Teranga” in action.

The win sees South Africa move top of the Group with four points before Cape Verde and Burkina Faso play later.
