Pre-match quotes: South Africa vs Zimbabwe

The Mighty Warriors will renew their rivalry against Banyanya Banyana this evening when the two teams clash in day 1 of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations being hosted by Cameroon.

Here are quotable quotes from a press conference done by the two teams  ahead of the match set for this evening at 1830hrs (Zim time)

Desiree Ellis (Head Coach, South Africa)
Playing against Zimbabwe is always not easy. We have played against Zimbabwe in several friendly matches, but tomorrow (Saturday) is no friendly. We face them (Zimbabwe) last week in Harare and managed to score three goals, but this is a completely new match. We cannot afford to take them for granted. Past results count for little.
We have prepared well. Football is bout scoring goals and we need to score goals to win.

Janine Van wyk (Captain, South Africa)
We don’t have professionals in our country, just girls from the towns playing football. As Banyana Banyana, we are doing well and that will encourage more women to take part in women’s football.

Shadrack Mlauzi (Head Coach, Zimbabwe)
Our opening match against South Africa will be tough but we hope to profit from the experience in our team. We are here to compete for honours. We failed to qualify for the last six editions (since 2002), but there is a reason why we are. We are here to win the trophy.

Talent Mandaza (Midfielder, Zimbabwe)
We played South Africa twice in the last five months and we know what to expect. We are confident of victory against them in our opening match at the tournament.
