PSL file request to Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)

Premier Soccer League clubs have officially filed an application with the Court of Arbitration for Sport(CAS) in their case against ZIFA.

The filing to CAS was done through Coghlan, Welsh and Guest the law firm representing the Premier Soccer League.

ZIFA has since been notified by the law firm and advised that they will hear from CAS on the matter,

We write to advise that we have instructed by our client and filed have a request for arbitration with the Court of Arbitration for Sport  wrote Coghlan, Welsh and Guest.We have requested CAS to arbitrate to the dispute between the parties and you will be receiving communication from the CAS anytime from now.

The issues for determination will be served on you together with a copy of request for arbitration.

The PSL is seeking interim measures of protection from CAS which shall include but not limited to the following:

-An order barring ZIFA from interfering with the day to day running of the PSL, and

-An order barring the purported suspension of, and commencement of any proceedings whatsoever against the Governors attending this meeting and/or their respective clubs and/or the PSL on the basis that:

-They have associated with an organization, being the PSL, considered to have no legal standing in the ZIFA Statutes, or

-They have not made decisions incidental to their membership of ZIFA “independently”, or

hey have pursued the arbitration route with CAS

The PSL also wants the July 2015 resolution to have two teams relegated, while the same number would be promoted from the national first divisions, to be binding.

In the meantime the PSL has also stated no team will be relegated until the matter has been heard and judged by CAS.
