Khama Billiat makes top five short list for CAF award

Zimbabwean international and Mamelodi Sundowns forward Khama Billiat has made the five man shortlist for the CAF African Player of the Year based in Africa award.

Billiat was one of the standout players for Mamelodi Sundowns in the African Safari and in the ABSA Premiership as well.

Sundowns clinched the CAF Champions League after beating Egyptian side Zamalek on a 3-1 aggregate.

Billiat  clinched the South African Football of the Year award after a superb season that saw Sundowns clinch the ABSA Premiership.

Three other Sundowns players Hlompho Kekana,Dennis Onyango,Keagan Dolly are also on the shortlist while Zambian Rainford Kalaba completes the list.

Meanwhile the five man shortlist for the African Player of the Year is as follows:

  1. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon & Borrusia Dortmund)
  2. Riyad Mahrez (Algeria & Leicester City)
  3. Sadio Mane (Senegal & Liverpool)
  4. Mohamed Salah (Egypt & Roma)
  5. Islam Slimani (Algeria & Leicester City)

According to CAF For the final phase, votes from the Head Coaches/Technical Directors of the 54 National Associations affiliated to CAF plus Associate Members, Reunion Island and Zanzibar, together with the other half of the 20-member Panel of Experts (10 persons) will be counted towards the determination of the eventual winners.

2016 Glo-CAF Awards Gala will be held on Thursday, 5 January 2017 in Abuja, Nigeria.
