UEFA Champions League: Real Madrid, Leicester seal Knockout stage qualification

Real Madrid have booked their place in the knockout rounds of the Champions League for a 20th consecutive season courtesy of a 2-1 win over 10-man Sporting Lisbon at the Jose Alvalade Stadium.

Sporting needed a win to remain in with a chance of reaching the last 16, but Karim Benzema’s late header condemned them to defeat after Adrien Silva had earlier cancelled out Raphael Varane’s opener.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League campaign came to an end after they were beaten 2-1 by AS Monaco at the Stade Louis II.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are no longer able to mathematically qualify for the last-16 stage, despite having one final game against CSKA Moscow left in Group E.

Leicester City have guaranteed top spot in Group G with a 2-1 victory over Club Brugge at the King Power Stadium.

First-half goals from Shinji Okazaki and Riyad Mahrez were enough to take the Foxes to 13 points as they ensured that they will continue their adventure in the Champions League after Christmas.

Marco Reus netted a hat-trick on his comeback as Borussia Dortmund hammered Legia Warsaw 8-4 on Tuesday in a record Champions League result which yielded seven first-half goals.

It was the first time a Champions League game has had a 5-2 half-time scoreline since Monaco ended up beating Deportivo de La Coruna 8-3 in November 2003.

The 12-goal haul in Dortmund bettered the record set in the Monaco-Deportivo game of 11 goals for a Champions League game.

Results:
CSKA Moscow 1-1 B. Leverkusen
Dortmund 8-4 Legia
Copenhagen 0-0 Porto
Dinamo Zagreb 0-1 Lyon
Leicester 2-1 Club Brugge
Monaco 2-1 Spurs
Sevilla 1-3 Juventus
Sporting Lisbon 1-2 Real Madrid
