Plane carrying Brazilian football team crashes in Colombia

A plane carrying Brazilian soccer players has reportedly crashed in Colombia.

According to Reuters Brazilian Chapecoense football team was among the 72 passengers and 9 crew on board the charter aircraft when it crashed.

76 of the 81 passengers have been confirmed to have died while three players are understood to be among the five survivors.

Chapecoense were due to face Atletico Nacional of Medellin in the first leg of Wednesday’s Sudamericana final, South America’s equivalent of the Europa League.

The news has stunned the football world with a number of players and high profile individuals passing their condolences while Brazilian President Michel Temer announced three days of national mourning
