Government mobilises $1 million package for Warriors!

The government through the Sports and Recreation Commission has boosted the Warriors ahead of their departure for AFCON 2017 by mobilising a $1 million package for the squad.

Government’s intervention comes after the Warriors camp threatened to be disturbed by accommodation issues and allowances.

Warriors sponsors Netone also came through and gave assurances to the players and technical team that their $250 000 package had not yet been exhausted and would accommodate them at a hotel in Harare and fly them out this weekend.

The intervention by the government is likely to come as sweet news to the Warriors will are now set to be extra motivated with the finances now available.

Minister of Sports and Recreation Makhosini Hlongwane said they approached ZIFA and triggered the government’s internal consultations processes that included speaking to acting president Emmerson Mnangagwa who helped in the facilitation of the package in an interview with the Herald.

Hlongwane said hopefully the package would help the warriors carry on and finish off their AFCON campaign without any more glitches.

A send off ceremony is also on the cards for the squad which will depart this weekend.
