Uganda MPs donate part of their salaries to support nation’s AFCON title bid

Members of Parliament in Uganda have agreed to donate a percentage of their salary to the cranes bid in AFCON 2017 being hosted by Gabon

“We agreed that we will contribute about $150 each and I will be going to Gabon with the cheque,” said the speaker of parliament, Rebecca Kadaga as quoted by BBC Sport.

The total amount to be collected from parliament will be $58,451 and will be a valuable addition to the team’s other sponsorships from the government.

The team that beat a 39 year old jinx to qualify for AFCON, was named the National Soccer team of the year at the recently held CAF awards.

They will play in group D alongside Ghana, Mali and Egypt – what has been termed the group of death.
