AFCON 2017: CAF Resolves Website Hacking

Confederation of African football (CAF) has resolved the hacking of their official website as political protests against Gabon’s hosting of the 2017 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations escalate.

The C.A.F official website was down for five hours on Saturday due to a ‘technical’ problem which the African football mother-body has since managed to resolve.

An anonymous member of a Russian group called New World Hackers has come forward and claimed responsibility for the mishap.

“Gabon is a country of dictatorship”, he said

The New World Hackers member also claimed responsibility over the hacking of Total website. Total signed a mega money sponsorship deal with CAF for the Gabon 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

“I don’t want to talk a lot but yes, we did the same to Total [website],” he claimed.

AFCON 2017 is being hosted in Gabon amid political turmoil, with the opposition, led by former African Union chair Jean Ping, as of last year calling for a boycott of the continental tournament.

         “Gabon is a country of
dictatorship.”

CAF communications director, Junior Binyam, has confirmed the hacking of their website but said the African football governing body has since resolved the issue.

“CAF has taken action but we can’t certify 100% it will not happen again.

“Even CIA servers are hacked,” he said.

Catnap | CAF president, Issa Hayatou, sleeps at a FIFA summit, as questions and accusations of gross incompetence rock the Confederation of African Football.

The African football governing body has introduced a five-second procedure that screens all website users, called a Cloudflare, to alleviate the problem.
