Pasuwa ‘steps down’ as Warriors coach

Warriors coach Calisto Pasuwa has stepped down from coaching the Warriors moments after crashing out of AFCON 2017 in the group stages in Gabon, according to reports.

In an interview with The Herald, a seemingly emotional Pasuwa thanked his family, ZIFA Presidents, his coaching staff, his players, friends and a wide range of team staff members.

“Following Zimbabwe’s participation at the African Cup of Nations in Gabon, where we unfortunately failed to go beyond the Group B stage, I think I should step aside and make way for another coach to take over,” said Pasuwa.

Pasuwa told The Herald he was stepping down as coach after Monday’s 4-2 defeat at the hands of Tunisia.

The coach, who has been in charge of the team for two years, qualified for CHAN 2016 as well as the ongoing AFCON 2017 in Gabon.

In his interview, Pasuwa took full responsibility of the team’s dismal performance while apologising to the nation.

“I am sorry we let the nation down in Gabon, but I believe if we can learn and build from this experience, we will do better in the next campaign and like I said, the foundation is there now for the future Warriors to work on.” he added.

The 46 year old gaffer is expected to pursue his coaching career at club level.
