‘We want to be competitive’ – Chitembwe

Caps United coach, Lloyd Chitembwe, has said that the goal of the 2016 Castle Lager Premier champions in the 2017 CAF Champions League is to be competitive.

Chitembwe told journalists in Harare that he will not be setting sights on any particular goal during the champions league campaign, stating that it was fundamental to build the squad to be competitive.

“As far as my objectives are concerned, I’m sure the most important of them all is to try and be competitive. As long as we have a competitive team we know we have a good chance of winning the things that we want to. So first things first, let’s have a team which is competitive,” he said.

Chitembwe also said that the team’s recent trip to Zambia on a club friendly tour was of benefit as far as overall preparations for the 2017 season are concerned. United played and lost 2-0 to Red Arrows in Lusaka last Friday. They, however, played Zambian Premier League champions, Zanaco, and won 2-1 on Sunday.

“I think the trip was good and it was of benefit to go to Zambia. I think, in a nutshell, the preparations are going well.

“We are not only preparing for the champions league, we are preparing for the [whole] season,” he said.
