International round-up: EPL, La Liga and AFCON

The EPL might be in a dramatic turn when Chelsea meet up with the 3rd placed Arsenal. If Chelsea is to win, they improve their tally from 9 points to 12. A win will certify their hopes of winning the title. Chelsea went down three goals in the reverse fixture at the Emirates stadium last year.

Manchester United’s top four hopes took a twist, after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Hull City at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening. Manchester United was held to a goalless draw by under dogs Hull City as their hope to finish in top 4 is shattering away with each game. Manchester united have remained constant on the log as the point they earned made sure that they remain on the 6th position with 42 points and trailing behind the log leaders with a 14 points gap.

La Liga
First-half strikes from Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez secured the victory that took a big step towards another Copa del Rey final with a 2-1 first-leg victory against Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon. The victory made sure that the holders were in control of the semi-final ahead of the return match at Camp Nou next Tuesday. The 2013 winners did show some improvement after the break but their effort was not so rewarding to walk away with a point, however Antoine Griezmann halved the deficit just shy the hour mark before missing a clear chance to level the scores moments later.

AFCON

Burkina Faso proved to be a nuisance to Egypt as they took the game to penalties after their Semi final clash ended goalless in regulated time. It was a merry for the Pharaohs as El Hadary saved 2 spot kicks booking his team a place in the final of AFCON 2017. The Egyptian’s chances of obtaining an eighth record title brightened as they have never lost in any final match that they have played in AFCON.

In another semi- final clash, Ghana is taking on the troubled Cameroon. Psychologically, the Ghanaians have better chances of winning the game as they are mentally prepared, as compared to their opponents who had to boycott training due to the payment of allowances.
