It’s all about the result, says Ndiraya

Ngezi Platinum Stars coach, Tonderai Ndiraya, says the most important thing is the result despite a 1-0 marginal win in their CAF Confederation Cup second leg preliminary round qualifier against Pamplemousses FC at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Saturday.

Inexperienced Ngezi Platinum Stars missed an opportunity to build confidence ahead of the next round as they alarmingly squandered a host of clear chances which could have made them comfortable winners of the match as sheer dissipation became the highlight of the encounter.

Speaking in the wake of their qualification into the second round of the tournament, Ndiraya said the Mhondoro based side was prepared to get a result after having drawn 1-1 in Mauritius last weekend.

“What is important at this level of the game is the result. That’s what we told ourselves, that we just had to come here and fight for a result.

“That is worrisome [missing chances] but what is important is to [be able] to create the chances, isn’t it? We were going to kick ourselves in the back if we had not won this match but that is football; it’s part of the game. What we just need to go and do is to work on the finishing part of the game,” he said.

Ndiraya said there was need now to work hard, particularly as they look forward to the next stage of the tournament.

“Here we are, we are through to the next round of the competition which is what is important. But we have to work hard, even harder than we worked before and get ourselves into the condition that is acceptable in the African competition.

“Our next opponents are no push-overs. They are from Angola, which is a renowned football nation, so we are going to take a gear up in our preparation for that match,” he said.
